Afluria Quad is an influenza vaccine used to help prevent certain types of influenza or "flu" caused by influenza virus subtypes A and type B present in the vaccine. It is a quadrivalent vaccine, meaning it contains fragments of four different types of influenza virus. Afluria Quad is approved for use in persons 6 months of age and older. It is given as an injection, usually into the upper arm muscle by a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, and is given once every year. The vaccine is manufactured by Seqirus Pty Ltd. Afluria Quad is available in different product presentations, including a package of ten 0.5-mL single-dose, prefilled, needleless syringes, or as a 5-mL multidose vial. The chance of having a severe unwanted reaction after having Afluria Quad vaccine is very small, and most people make satisfactory antibodies against the influenza virus.
