Southwest Airlines allows the following in carry-on baggage for 2025:
- You are allowed one carry-on bag with maximum dimensions of 24” x 16” x 10” including wheels and handles. There is no specified weight limit, but you must be able to lift it into the overhead bin yourself.
- In addition to the carry-on bag, you may bring one personal item (such as a purse, briefcase, laptop case, or small backpack). This personal item must fit under the seat in front of you and can be up to 16.25” x 13.5” x 8” in size with no weight restriction.
- You can also bring additional small items like coats, umbrellas, neck pillows, and food or drinks purchased at the airport.
- Liquids in carry-on bags are restricted to containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less, typically carried in a quart-sized bag, following TSA regulations.
- Infant items (e.g., strollers, car seats, diaper bags, breast pumps, and milk/formula) and mobility aids (wheelchairs, canes, crutches) are allowed in addition to carry-on and personal items.
- Medications including insulin kits and EpiPens, usually allowed through security even if liquids exceed normal limits, generally require screening and possibly a doctor's note.
Note that checked bags are no longer free for most passengers starting May 28, 2025, but this does not affect carry-on allowances. In summary, Southwest's carry-on baggage policy is quite generous with one standard carry-on bag and one personal item allowed per passenger, plus some additional small and essential items allowed onboard.
