In volleyball, an assist is awarded to a player who passes, sets, or digs the ball to a teammate who attacks the ball for a kill. The player who usually owns the most assists on a team is the setter. An assist is usually the second touch on the ball, and it is recorded only if it directly leads to a kill. If a set does not directly lead to a kill, it is recorded as a zero assist. A zero assist is only recorded if schools wish to keep assist percentage.
