A dependent variable is a variable that changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation in experiments. It is the variable that is being measured or tested in an experiment. The dependent variable is studied under the supposition or demand that it depends, by some law or rule, on the values of other variables. In other words, it is something that depends on other factors. Dependent variables are also called response variables, outcome variables, or left-hand-side variables. In a scientific experiment, you cannot have a dependent variable without an independent variable.
