The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a network of physical objects, such as sensors, appliances, and other devices, that are embedded with software, sensors, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet or other communications networks. IoT devices can communicate and interact with each other over the internet, and can be remotely monitored and controlled. IoT technology is most commonly associated with "smart home" products, including devices and appliances that support one or more common ecosystems, and can be controlled via devices associated with that ecosystem, such as smartphones and smart speakers. IoT devices also have industrial and healthcare applications, such as monitoring assembly lines or collecting health data. The technology associated with IoT devices is collectively referred to as the Internet of Things.
