MMORPG stands for "massively multiplayer online role-playing game". It is a type of video game that combines aspects of a role-playing game and a massively multiplayer online game. In an MMORPG, the player assumes the role of a character and takes control over many of that characters actions. The game is distinguished from single-player or small multi-player online RPGs by the number of players able to interact together, and by the games persistent world, which continues to exist and evolve while the player is offline and away from the game. MMORPGs are usually deployed using a client-server system architecture, where the server software generates a persistent instance of the virtual world that runs continuously, and players connect to it via a client software. The most common MMORPGs are RPGs, where players create a character and live as them within the virtual world.
