The SEC (Southeastern Conference) is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the South Central and Southeastern United States. SEC schools began athletic competition with one another more than 100 years ago as members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The SEC consists of 14 member institutions located in the U.S. states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Most SEC schools are public research universities, which means theyre funded by the government. The SEC universities are:
