Auto H on a BMW stands for "auto hold". It is a feature that keeps the parking brake engaged as you release the brakes until you push on the accelerator, for up to a maximum of about 5 seconds. This feature is very helpful when you are at a stoplight or in stop-and-go traffic. Once you activate the Auto H feature, the car is secured from rolling when the brake has been applied. It is available on BMWs with a Steptronic transmission. To activate the Auto H feature, the car needs to be in drive-ready state, and you need to press the button on the center console, which illuminates the LED. The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates green (AUTO H) .
