The Bangsamoro, officially the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), is an autonomous region in the Philippines, located in the southern part of the country. It replaced the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and consists of five predominantly Muslim provinces. The region has its own government, including a Regional Governor, executive departments, and a unicameral legislature, the Regional Legislative Assembly. It has its own regional justice system that applies Shari'ah law, and also recognizes traditional or tribal laws, in addition to Philippine laws. The BARMM was formed in February 2019 following the acceptance of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, after decades of armed conflict. It is home to around 4 million Filipinos and is one of the poorest regions in the country, facing challenges such as high poverty incidence, infant and maternal mortality, and low reproductive health indicators
. The Bangsamoro is an ethno-religious mosaic, comprising various Muslim Moro groups, Christians, and indigenous peoples
