Blooms Taxonomy
Blooms taxonomy is a set of three hierarchical models used for the classification of educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. The three lists cover the learning objectives in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The framework was developed by Benjamin Bloom and his collaborators in 1956 and has been revised over the years. It consists of six major categories: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. The emphasis on higher-order thinking inherent in this framework is based on the top levels of the taxonomy, including application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Blooms taxonomy serves as the backbone of many teaching philosophies, particularly those that lean more towards skills rather than content. It is widely used by educators to develop new teaching strategies and encourage higher-order thought in students by building up from lower-level cognitive skills.
