BO ID stands for Beneficiary Owner Identification Number, which is a unique identification number assigned to each Demat account holder and is registered with the Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) . The BO ID is assigned by the Depository Participant (DP) to identify the Demat account holder and is used for all transactions related to the Demat account. It is a 16-digit alphanumeric code that is unique to each Demat account holder, with the first 8 digits representing the DP ID with CDSL and the last 8 digits representing the client ID. The Demat account holder needs to keep the BO ID confidential and not share it with anyone else to prevent unauthorized access to the Demat account.
The BO ID is required when applying for IPOs and generating the CDSL TPIN for holdings authorization. It is also used to identify a unique Demat account held with the depository (CDSL) through the Depository Participant (DP) . To find your BO ID, you can follow the steps provided by your DP or broker, such as visiting the account dashboard.
