Cargo refers to goods or merchandise being transported from one place to another by water, air, or land. The term "freight" is often used interchangeably with cargo, but it specifically refers to goods transported at a freight rate for commercial gain. Cargo can include any type of product or good, and it is mainly for commercial purposes. Cargo can be transported by various means, including ships, airplanes, trucks, trains, and intermodal containers. When empty containers are shipped, each unit is documented as cargo, and when goods are stored within, the contents are termed containerized cargo. Similarly, aircraft ULD boxes are also documented as cargo, with an associated packing list of the items contained within. However, cargo does not include items such as personnel bags, goods in storage, equipment, or products to support the transport carried onboard.
