The circulatory system is a system of organs that includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood, which is circulated throughout the entire body of a human or other vertebrate. It is also known as the cardiovascular system or vascular system. The main function of the circulatory system is to deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells and remove waste products. The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood to all parts of the body. Blood vessels, including arteries, capillaries, and veins, form a network that carries blood throughout the body. The circulatory system has two divisions, a systemic circulation or circuit, and a pulmonary circulation or circuit. The systemic circulation provides blood to all the bodys tissues so they can function, while the pulmonary circulation is a short loop from the heart to the lungs and back again. The blood consists of cells and plasma, and it carries carbon dioxide to the lungs for exhalation and picks up oxygen. The circulatory system also transports hormones to muscles, tissues, and organs throughout the body.
