A Class C drivers license is a type of commercial driver's license (CDL) that allows drivers to operate commercial motor vehicles or a combination of vehicles that don’t meet the requirements for Class A or Class B licenses, including both intrastate and interstate transportation. Class C vehicles are designed to carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or will transport freight classified as hazardous materials (hazmat) . In New York, a Class C commercial license allows drivers to operate any single or combination of motor vehicles with a combined gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of fewer than 26,001 pounds. Additionally, a Class C license includes most single unit vehicles that individuals who hold a Class E driver's license can operate and trucks and buses.
