Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services over the internet, including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence. In simple terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the internet instead of your computers hard drive. The cloud is an extensive network of remote servers around the world that store and manage data, run applications, and deliver content and services like streaming videos, web mail, and office productivity software over the internet. Cloud computing frees you from relying on local computers and servers, allowing you to access your data online from any internet-capable device, whenever and wherever you want. Cloud computing is not about your local storage, which is when you store data on or run programs from the hard drive or your solid-state drive. Instead, cloud computing takes all the heavy lifting involved in crunching and processing data away from the device you carry around or sit and work at, and moves all of that work to huge computer clusters far away in cyberspace.
