Conduit wiring is a system of wiring in which all wires or cables from supply to load are passed through iron or PVC pipes. The pipes, also known as conduits, are used to protect the wires from weather conditions, physical breakdown, fire dangers, and atmospheric effects. The conduit wiring system consists of either VIR or PVC cables taken through tubes or pipes and terminated at the outlets or switches/sockets. Conduit and tubing are sold in straight 10-foot lengths, in sizes ranging from 1/2-inch up to two inches. Unlike factory-made electrical cables where the insulated wires are already installed within the cable jacket or sheathing, when using conduit wiring, you need to pull or push your own insulated wires into the conduit. The most common types of conduit used for residential wiring include metal and plastic materials designed for different applications. Conduit wiring is normally installed in a concealed manner, which presents a very beautiful appearance, but its inspection is relatively difficult whenever required.
