Close Quarters Battle (CQB) is a type of combat training that focuses on fighting in confined spaces, such as buildings or vehicles, where there is little room to maneuver. CQB training is designed for units assigned to direct action/precision raid missions who have completed a Direct Action Pre-Shoot Course. The training presents multiple tactics, techniques, and procedures and allows the unit time and situations to develop Standard Operating Procedures. Situational Training Exercises are designed to test and refine those SOP’s.
CQB training is essential for military and law enforcement personnel who regularly conduct CQC tactics. The training requires expensive equipment and training facilities, using up funding that can be a challenge for some organizations. CQB tactics soon reached police tactical units and similar paramilitaries, such as American SWAT teams, by the 1980s and 1990s.
There are various CQB training programs available, ranging from basic home defense to advanced urban combat courses. These courses are professionally structured to deliver critical information to students through formal instructor-led classes and proven out using reality-based training and live target engagements using non-lethal training ammunition to reinforce teaching points and to validate the tactics. The courses can be modified to meet training facility requirements and delivered in either live fire or non-live fire formats using non-lethal training ammunition.
