CSO stands for Chief Security Officer. A CSO is a C-suite executive responsible for a company's physical and digital security. The CSO provides executive leadership and oversees the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks, directing all efforts concerned with the security of the organization. The CSO is responsible for developing and overseeing policies and programs used in the mitigation or operational, strategic, and financial security risk strategies relating to the personnel or staff, any assets, and other property. The CSO is also responsible for developing and clarifying the vision of an organization, communicating it to the masses, and sustaining the implementation efforts. The CSO may report to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) or the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), or the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In a large enterprise organization, the CSO may work closely with other security directors like the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
