Demineralized water is water that has had most or all of its mineral content removed through various purification methods. The most common methods for creating demineralized water are distillation, reverse osmosis, and deionization. Demineralized water is used for a range of industrial and commercial purposes, such as in car batteries, automotive cooling systems, cooling towers, boilers, and other systems where minerals in the water could build up on surfaces and cause blockages and other problems. It is also required in pharmaceutical manufacturing and cosmetics industries, and used for electronics manufacture and a number of industrial processes, such as laser cutting. However, most people do not drink demineralized water because they think it tastes different.
