DLNA stands for Digital Living Network Alliance, which is a set of interoperability standards for sharing home digital media among multimedia devices. DLNA allows users to share or stream stored media files to various certified devices on the same network like PCs, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and TVs. DLNA technology provides home networking capability to many home audio and video devices, including computers, game consoles, digital cameras, and portable/mobile products.

To use DLNA, you need the following:

  • An Active Network: The device must be connected using either a wired or wireless connection to your home high-speed Internet connection or to a Local Area Network (LAN) .
  • A DLNA Certified Digital Media Server: These devices store content and make it available to networked digital media players, personal computers, and network-attached storage devices (NAS) .
  • A DLNA Certified Digital Media Player or Client: These devices are able to find photos and videos from other DLNA Certified devices and play them on.

DLNA-enabled products are designed to be affordable, easy to install, and can interoperate with each other without requiring complex or tedious setup and configuration for connection between devices. DLNA Certified products are normally indicated with a DLNA logo on the product packaging or the device itself.
