Dominant traits in genetics refer to the relationship between an observed trait and the two inherited versions of a gene related to that trait. A dominant allele produces a dominant phenotype in individuals who have one copy of the allele, which can come from just one parent. In contrast, a recessive allele only produces a recessive phenotype if the individual has two copies of the allele, one from each parent. This means that for a trait to be dominant, only one copy of the dominant allele is required to express the trait, while for a recessive trait, both alleles must be present to express the trait
