An e-book, short for electronic book, is a book publication made available in electronic form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on the flat-panel display of computers or other electronic devices. E-books can be created by converting a printers source files to formats optimized for easy downloading and on-screen reading, or they can be drawn from a database or a set of text files that were not created solely for print. Unlike other text that can be read on a device, an e-book is not editable, which is for the safety and protection of the author. E-books can be read on dedicated e-reader devices, but also on any computer device that features a controllable viewing screen, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. E-books are becoming more popular not only because they are convenient, but also because theyre less expensive to produce. Authors eliminate the overhead costs needed for printing hard copies of their work, and because they can be accessed on multiple devices at once, e-books also take up less space. E-books are vital marketing assets with multiple digital pages that deliver information to its reader. In addition, they are often packaged as PDF documents so readers can share them.
