An E-Shram Card is a digital labor card in India that provides workers easy access to their employment records and secures personal and employment information. It is an identity card for workers in India that serves as proof of their employment and helps them access various social security benefits and schemes provided by the government. The Labor Department issues the card to all workers employed in the economy’s formal and informal sectors, and it is issued free of charge to all eligible workers and is valid for the duration of their employment. Any worker who is unorganized and aged between 16-59 is eligible to register on the eShram portal. The objective of the e-Shram portal is to collect the database of unorganized workers to provide them with the benefits of various government schemes and facilities. Some of the key benefits of the E-Shram Card are proof of employment, access to social security schemes, easy transfer of benefits, and a pension amount after 60 years. The application for the e-Shram card can be made through the CSC (Common Service Centre) or the e-Shram portal.
