Eid-e-Milad, also known as Mawlid, is an observance of the day when the Islamic prophet Muhammad is reported to have been born. It is commemorated in Rabi al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar. The festival is celebrated by Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. It is observed by remembering his teachings, offering special prayers, preparing sweet delicacies, and decorating houses. The date of Eid-e-Milad varies each year as per the Muslim calendar, and it is celebrated on different days by the Shia and Sunni sects. While the Sunni scholars celebrate it on the 12th day of Rabi al-awwal, some Shia scholars regard the 17th day as the accepted date. The festival is marked with various celebrations, including religious hymns, public discourses, and night-time torchlight processions. Eid-e-Milad is considered extremely auspicious among the Muslim community, and it is believed that the origin of the celebration can be traced back to the early days of Islam when Muslims used to gather and read verses.
