Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Mawlid, is an Islamic festival that commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. The festival is observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi al-Awwal. The date of the festival varies every year as per the lunar calendar, and it is celebrated on different days by the Shia and Sunni sects. Sunni Muslims celebrate it on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal, while Shia Muslims celebrate it on the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal. The festival is marked by remembering Prophet Muhammads teachings, offering special prayers, and preparing sweet delicacies. Homes and mosques are decorated with colorful lights, and people deck up in new clothes. The festival is also widely observed in many countries, including Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, and Germany.
