The Emergency Alert Monthly Test in mobile is a monthly test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) that must take place once a month. The WEA test alert is sent to mobile phones nationwide. The test is conducted to ensure that the system is working properly and to familiarize the public with the alert tone and emergency messages. The nationwide WEA test message is sent to most, but not all, people who have a WEA-compatible mobile device that is turned on. The Wireless Emergency Alerts system is an essential part of Americas emergency preparedness, and it has been used more than 84,000 times to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical situations.
