The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) collaborates with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to enhance emergency communication with the Cell Broadcast Alert System. The Cell Broadcast Alert System is a cutting-edge technology that empowers operators to disseminate critical and time-sensitive disaster management messages to all mobile devices within specified geographical areas, regardless of whether the recipients are residents or visitors. The initiative aims to bolster emergency communication during disasters and prioritize the safety and well-being of people. The NDMA has envisioned a Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) based Emergency Alert System. The comprehensive testing of the Cell Broadcast Alert System technology enables the dissemination of time-sensitive disaster management messages to all mobile devices within specified geographical areas. The emergency alerts have been reportedly tested on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Reliance Jio’s networks, as well as, on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea’s networks. The DOTs ambitious initiative encompasses the implementation of cell broadcasting across the entire pan-India network of all Telecom Service Providers.
