ETL certification is a safety certification program that provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services for a wide range of industries. ETL stands for Electrical Testing Laboratories, which is the certification division of Intertek Testing Laboratories. Intertek was founded in 1896 by Thomas Edison and has more than 30 offices and laboratories around the world. The ETL Mark is proof of product compliance to North American safety standards, and it is accepted by authorities having jurisdiction and code officials across the US and Canada as proof of product compliance to published industry standards. The ETL Mark is similar to the UL Listed Mark, which is another safety certification program. The main difference between UL and ETL is the surveillance programs they operate, and aside from the marks they apply to products after testing, there are little differences between them. The ETL Mark is featured on millions of products sold by major retailers and distributors every day.
