In Formula 1, track limits are the boundary between the race track and being off the circuit. They are enforced throughout practice, qualifying, and the race to stop drivers from gaining a sporting advantage. A driver is deemed to have exceeded track limits if they put all four wheels over the agreed boundary, which is usually the white line. If a driver exceeds track limits, their time for that lap is deleted. If a driver exceeds track limits in the final corner of one lap, their time for the next lap may be deleted if race stewards determine that the driver gained an advantage for the subsequent lap. During a Grand Prix, drivers are only permitted two track limits violations without incident. If a driver exceeds the limits for a third time, they will be given a warning. If a driver exceeds the limits for a fourth time, they will be given a five-second time penalty. A fifth excursion triggers a 10-second penalty. The FIA assesses specific corners where track limits are usually a problem and says its only when a driver has all four wheels outside of the outer edge of the exit kerb that they are deemed to be off the track.
