Express Entry is an online system used by the Canadian government to manage immigration applications from skilled workers who wish to immigrate to Canada and acquire Canadian permanent residence. It is a points-based system that allots points based on skills, work experience, Canadian employment status, and provincial/territorial nomination. The higher your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, the greater your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a Permanent Residency in Canada. There are three immigration programs managed through Express Entry: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) .

Here are the steps to apply for Express Entry:

  1. Find out if you’re eligible for one of the three immigration programs managed through Express Entry.
  2. Get your documents ready, such as language test results, to show you’re eligible for Express Entry.
  3. Fill out your profile, which is an electronic form submitted by eligible candidates that includes personal details such as age, work experience, education, ability in French and English, family details, and ties to Canada.
  4. If you’re eligible, you’ll be ranked in the Express Entry pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which is a points-based system used to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool.
  5. To be invited, you need to have a score above the minimum points score for your round of invitations.
  6. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you can then apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Express Entry has faster processing times of 6 months or even less for Canada PR Visa applications. Some candidates for Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program are also selected through Express Entry.
