Facility management or facilities management (FM) is a professional management discipline focused on the efficient and effective delivery of logistics and other support services related to real property and buildings. It is a profession dedicated to supporting people and ensuring the functionality, comfort, safety, sustainability, and efficiency of the built environment by integrating people, place, process, and technology. The profession is certified through Global Facility Management Association (Global FM) member organizations.

Facility management encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure the quality of life of people and the productivity of the core business. The ISO defines facility management as “an organizational function which integrates people, place, and process within the built environment to improve the quality of life of people and the productivity of the core business” .

The importance of facility management lies in its four main pillars: people, processes, the building, and technology. The foremost objective of a facility manager is creating an accommodating work environment. Facility managers are responsible for addressing employee concerns and ensuring a safe work environment. They handle issues related to building maintenance, security, cleaning, and energy management.
