Passport File Number
The passport file number, also known as the passport reference file number (PRFN), is a unique alphanumeric code provided to an individual upon submitting a passport application. This number is essential for tracking the status of the passport application. In the case of Indian passports, the file number typically consists of 12 characters and includes information such as the location of application and the year of application. For example, if someone applies for a passport in Madras in 2018, the Passport Reference File Number will start with "MASW" and end with "18," with six additional digits in between.
The file number is generated once the passport application is successfully submitted and the fee is paid. It serves as a tracking ID, allowing applicants to monitor the progress of their passport application. In the event of delays or issues with the application, the file number can be used to obtain updates and track the status of the passport application.
