In MotoGP, flag-to-flag refers to a race procedure that is enforced during changeable weather conditions mid-race. The flag-to-flag procedure is very simple: when it starts to rain, the track marshals show the white flag with a red cross to warn of the presence of rain. This indicates that riders can enter the pits to change their bikes to ones with wet weather tires. Once the majority of riders have changed their bikes, the race is restarted with a new "wet race" start. There is no penalty issued by race direction if the rider decides not to switch bikes, as it is up to the rider to decide what is best for them at the time, taking weather and tire conditions into account.
