A foyer is an interior space connecting a homes entrance to the rest of the house. It is also known as an entrance hall, hallway, entryway, and vestibule. The foyer is the first thing visitors see after they walk through your front door and enter your home. It serves several functions, including providing added storage space. Foyers generally have some kind of coat closet and are a great place for a shoe bench if yours is a "shoes off" household. The SOC defines a two-story foyer as the entranceway inside the front door of a house. It has a ceiling that is the same level as the second-floor ceiling. Traditionally, foyers are used to greet guests and welcome them into your home. A foyer is different from an entryway in that it is typically more formal. In a home, it is still a dedicated space for your guests to transition from outside to inside, only on a much smaller scale. A foyer can be decorated with a rug or runner to define the space, and its purpose can be set by adding furniture that serves a specific function.
