The G20 Summit is an annual meeting of the Group of 20 (G20), which consists of 19 countries and the European Union (EU). The 18th G20 Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, on September 9-10, 2023. This will be the first G20 summit held in India and in South Asia. The summit will be hosted by the Indian Presidency, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi serving as the Chair.
The theme of the 2023 G20 Summit is One Earth, One Family, One Future,' which emphasizes the value of human, animal, plant, and microorganisms and their interconnectedness on planet Earth and in the wider universe. The Indian Presidency will also focus on Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), promoting environmentally sustainable and responsible choices at both the individual and national levels, with the aim of achieving a cleaner, greener, and bluer future.
The G20 Summit is the culmination of a year-long process that includes Ministerial Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups. The Indian Presidency will highlight six thematic priorities, and the Working Groups will focus on various tracks, including climate and energy, food security, and sustainable development.
The G20 countries together account for almost two-thirds of the global population, 75% of global trade, and 85% of the world's GDP. The Leaders' Summit will be attended by 43 Heads of Delegations, the largest ever in the G20. A G20 Leaders' Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the summit, stating the leaders' commitment to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and working group meetings.
