Generation Y, also known as Millennials, refers to the demographic cohort born roughly between 1981 and 1996. They fall between Generation X and Generation Z. This generation grew up surrounded by technology such as the internet and smartphones, making them tech-savvy. They are often characterized by their value for work-life balance, education, collaboration, diversity and inclusion, and social and environmental responsibility. At the end of 2025, Generation Y individuals will generally be between 29 and 44 years old. They are currently a significant part of the workforce and are known for preferring flexible working conditions and meaningful work rather than just financial rewards. This generation has faced unique economic challenges, such as the Great Recession of 2008, affecting their financial independence and career trajectories. "Generation Y" and "Millennials" are terms used interchangeably, with "Millennials" becoming the more popular term over time because this group became adults around the turn of the millennium. They have been described as confident, ambitious, image-conscious, and socially liberal, often valuing collaboration and inclusivity in their workplaces and communities.
