Goofy is a close friend of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and is Max Goofs father. He is normally characterized as hopelessly clumsy and dim-witted, yet occasionally, Goofy is shown as intuitive and clever, albeit in his own unique, eccentric way.
There has been some debate about what kind of animal Goofy is. While some people believe that he is a cow, based on his on-again, off-again relationship with Clarabelle Cow, who is clearly a cow, Goofy is actually an anthropomorphic dog. Voice actor Bill Farmer, who has voiced Goofy since 1987, has said that Goofy is "not a dog" but rather "seems to be in the canine family" without explicitly being labeled as a dog.
