Goofy is a cartoon character created by The Walt Disney Company. He is an anthropomorphic dog who typically wears a turtle neck and vest, with pants, shoes, white gloves, and a tall hat originally designed as a rumpled fedora. Goofy is a close friend of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and is Max Goofs father. He is normally characterized as hopelessly clumsy and dim-witted, yet occasionally, Goofy is shown as intuitive and clever, albeit in his own unique, eccentric way.
There has been some debate about what kind of animal Goofy is. While some people believe that he is a cow, based on his on-again, off-again relationship with Clarabelle Cow, who is clearly a cow, Goofy is actually an anthropomorphic dog. Voice actor Bill Farmer, who has voiced Goofy since 1987, has said that Goofy is "not a dog" but rather "seems to be in the canine family" without explicitly being labeled as a dog. The Latin term "Canis Goofus" is used to describe Goofy, meaning that he is not simply a dog or a cow, but just Goofy.
Regardless of his species, Goofy is a beloved Disney character known for his silly personality and iconic laugh. He frequently appears alongside his best friends Mickey and Donald, and has substantially impacted popular culture throughout the last few decades.
