A Grade Point Average (GPA) is a standardized way of measuring academic achievement, commonly used in the United States and some other countries. The GPA is calculated by converting a students grades into a numerical value and then averaging these values. It is used by potential employers or educational institutions to assess and compare applicants. A cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is a measure of performance for all of a students courses. GPA is an important factor for college admissions, financial aid, scholarship eligibility, future employment opportunities, and eligibility for college athletic teams. It is also a measure of a candidates academic skill and can influence a students status as a student in good standing and continued enrollment in their major. A high GPA, along with a strong GRE or SAT score, can improve a students chances of being considered for top universities in the US. The average GPA for a challenging course is usually 2.75 upwards, and maintaining a high GPA can open opportunities during a students academic career and beyond.
