A grocery store, also known as a grocery shop, is a retail store that primarily sells a general range of food products, which may be fresh or packaged. In the United States, "grocery store" is often used as a synonym for "supermarket" and is not typically used to refer to other types of stores that sell groceries. In the UK, the terms "supermarket," "corner shop," "convenience shop," or "grocery" are more commonly used. Larger grocery stores such as supermarkets and hypermarkets usually stock significant amounts of non-food products, while smaller ones that sell mainly fruit and vegetables are known as greengrocers (in Britain) or produce markets (in the U.S.)
