The initials "GSH" on the Chicago Bears uniform stand for George S. Halas, who was the founder, player, coach, and owner of the Chicago Bears franchise. Halas was a legendary figure in the NFL, having won eight NFL championships and being named twice as the coach of the year by the Associated Press. He was also named to the 100 greatest Bears of All-Time list and the NFLs 100th Anniversary team. After his death in 1983, the Chicago Bears honored his historic legacy with the GSH initials on their left sleeve, where they have remained since. The Bears practice facility is also named Halas Hall.
