Guru
A guru is a term originating from Sanskrit, referring to a "mentor, guide, expert, or master" of certain knowledge or field. In Hinduism, a guru is more than a teacher; they are a reverential figure to the disciple or student, serving as a counselor, sharing experiential knowledge, and helping in the spiritual evolution of the student. The literal translation of guru is someone who is a "dispeller of darkness," where darkness represents ignorance. Traditionally, a guru is a religious or spiritual teacher who not only has deep knowledge but also direct experience of divine vision or grace. While having a guru is immensely beneficial for spiritual knowledge and advancement in Hindu traditions, it is not a requirement for all Hindus. The term "guru" is also used for spiritual teachers in the Buddhist, Jain, and Sikh traditions. In a broader context, "guru" can also refer to a teacher, intellectual guide, acknowledged leader, or a person with knowledge or expertise in various fields.
