Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) is a mental health condition characterized by intense, unstable emotions, distorted self-image, and an overwhelming desire for attention. People with HPD may exhibit sexually provocative behavior, express strong emotions with an impressionistic style, and can be easily influenced by others. They may also have difficulty achieving emotional or sexual intimacy and may try to control their partner using seductiveness or emotional manipulations while becoming very dependent on the partner. HPD lies in the dramatic cluster of personality disorders, which also includes conditions such as narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and antisocial personality disorder.

Treatment for HPD may include psychodynamic psychotherapy, group therapy, and general treatment. Group therapy may be of particular benefit to people with HPD, especially if it’s with other people with HPD. It can help someone with HPD see their own behavior reflected back at them.
