In computing, an icon is a pictogram or ideogram displayed on a computer screen to help the user navigate a computer system. Icons are a component of GUI (graphical user interface) operating systems, including Apple macOS X and Microsoft Windows. They are small graphical representations of a program, feature, or file, and when clicked or double-clicked, the associated file or program opens or an action is performed. Icons stand for objects or functions accessible on the system and enable the user to do tasks common to an office space. They provide a more appealing visual representation, which makes them more enjoyable to use than text-based commands. On most systems, users can create and delete, replicate, select, click or double-click standard computer icons and drag them to new positions on the screen to create a customized user environment. Icons have standard sizes, usually small, such as 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, and one icon is composed of several images, each with a different size and number of colors.
