The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) is a baseboard management controller (BMC) built into Dell PowerEdge servers. It is designed to provide secure local and remote server management, allowing IT administrators to deploy, update, monitor, maintain, and manage Dell PowerEdge servers from anywhere at any time. iDRAC is integrated into the motherboard of the server and provides a browser-based and/or command-line interface for managing and monitoring the server hardware. It has its own processor, memory, network interface, and access to the system bus. iDRAC offers features such as telemetry streaming, secured component verification, RESTful API with Redfish support, and agent-free embedded server management. It also provides security features that adhere to well-known standards and certifications, such as NIST, Common Criteria, and FIPS-140-2. The platform is available in different versions, with iDRAC 7 being introduced in conjunction with the release of Dell PowerEdge generation 12 servers in March 2012.
