IMAX Enhanced is a certification program developed by IMAX and audio specialist DTS in 2018 to ensure the highest quality playback in the home with regards to resolution, color, brightness, contrast, and sound. Films and TV shows can be mastered or remastered in IMAX Enhanced to give viewers the best picture possible. If a device or service sports the IMAX Enhanced logo, it means that it meets the rigorous quality standards set out by IMAX, and viewers can expect clearer, brighter pictures with reduced noise and grain, plus immersive sound, courtesy of Dolby Atmos rival DTS:X.
IMAX Enhanced content is available on various platforms, including Disney+ and Rakuten TV. While larger 4K HDR TVs will do the best job, viewers dont technically need to shell out on any new kit to benefit from IMAX Enhanced. However, they won't get the full experience, including immersive audio, unless they opt for an IMAX Enhanced-certified device.
IMAX Enhanced is set to get immersive "IMAX signature sound by DTS". The certification program is a complex set of video and audio standards that help studios format their movies for distribution to ensure the highest quality. Movies that are shot for the gargantuan IMAX screens have to use special cameras that shoot in a taller aspect ratio than movies typically use.
