An interlude is a short period of time when an activity or situation stops and something else happens. In music, an interlude is when the music is interrupted, spaced out, or intervened with in some way. In theater, an interlude is a short dramatic piece, especially of a light or farcical character, formerly introduced between the parts or acts of miracle and morality plays. In general, an interlude can refer to any performance between the acts of a play, instrumental music played between the parts of a song, liturgy, or play, or anything that fills time between two events.
