In fantasy football, IR stands for injured reserve. When a player is placed on the injured reserve list in the NFL, they become incapable of playing, and this allows NFL teams to add another player to their roster. In fantasy football, the IR spot is used to help soften the blow of players getting hurt. The system will automatically place the IR tag on a player once ESPN receives the report from the NFL. If a player is designated as OUT or IR, they are IR eligible. A player on the IR list in the NFL is automatically placed by the system on the same IR list in your fantasy football league.
