Level 1 autism is the mildest form of autism, also known as "high-functioning autism" or what was previously diagnosed as Aspergers syndrome. Individuals with level 1 autism may have difficulty understanding social cues, struggle to form and maintain personal relationships, and experience some inflexibility of behavior, such as difficulty switching between tasks, staying organized, and planning. They may understand and speak in complete sentences but have difficulty engaging in back-and-forth conversation. Children with level 1 autism still require support, as they may have challenges in communicating appropriately or engaging with others.
