The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment tool that identifies a persons personality type and psychological preferences. It categorizes individuals into one of 16 personality types based on four different cognitive functions: extraversion vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling, and judging vs. perceiving. The test attempts to assign a binary value to each of these four categories, and one letter from each category is taken to produce a four-letter test result, such as "ISTJ" or "ENFP". The MBTI is designed to help people identify and gain some understanding around how they take in information and make decisions, the patterns of perception and judgment, as seen in normal, healthy behavior. The assessment is used for personal development, career counseling, and team building. However, it is widely regarded as pseudoscience by the scientific community.
