Church ministry refers to any action taken on behalf of the church that serves its mission in some way. It is the activity and responsibility of the local church in the fulfillment of its biblically defined mandate in the world. Ministry might look like preaching, teaching, counseling, evangelizing, serving, or any other activity that helps the church fulfill its mission. The type of ministry varies in different churches, but most churches have ministers who are set apart by ecclesiastical authority to be ministers in the church or whose call to special vocational service in a church is afforded some measure of general recognition.

The goal and purpose of ministry in the church is to use our God-given gifts and connection to one another to build one another up in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God, helping one another think, live, and know as Christ does, so that we will not be deceived and led astray. Ministry is about giving of ourselves and our time, talents, and resources to bless and help others. It involves serving God and serving other people in His name. Each Christian should be involved in the ministry of helping others, not just pastors. The content of ministry should prioritize ministering in spiritual things, not just practical things.
